Addressing concerns over lateral flow testing

There has been some confusion around the guidance on whether to use LFD tests within 90 days of having tested positive with Covid. One local authority contact tells us the national position is under review.

In the interim, Ebor’s advice follows that of other trusts and most local authority public health leaders to not to get tested within that period unless you develop new symptoms (in which case, you need to isolate and book a PCR test online or via 119).

This is for a number of reasons, including the very low likelihood of new infection in this period and the need for a consistent approach. However, there is no need to be overly concerned if staff already have done this, as an LFD test works differently to a PCR test and so the likelihood of testing positive after you’re no longer infectious is much lower.
