Kitty has news for you

A budding journalist from Staynor Hall Community Primary Academy has picked up an award for her reporting of the North Yorkshire School Games.

Ten-year-old Kitty, a Year 6 pupil, won a goody bag from organisers of the event, which attracted over 400 young people to the University of York in the summer. Schools from across North Yorkshire took part, with the Selby school coming a respectable eighth place overall.

Kitty’s descriptive writing, however, bagged the prize from judges who awarded her £25 and a tote bag which included a waterbottle, notepad, badge and ball.

“I enjoyed writing the report. It was fun to see what was going on,” said Kitty.

Headteacher Mr Tim Jolly said: “We’re really proud of our achievements in the school games and it was a bonus for one of our children to also pick up an unexpected prize too – well done to Kitty!”
