DfE Approval of Ebor and Nexus Merger

DfE approves merger between Ebor Academy Trust and Nexus Multi Academy Trust
New trust to be Nexus Ebor Schools Trust (NEST)
We are delighted to confirm that the Department for Education has formally approved the merger between Ebor Academy Trust and Nexus Multi Academy Trust.
The two Trusts will come together to form Nexus Ebor Schools Trust (NEST), bringing together 47 schools and settings, around 8,500 learners and more than 2,000 colleagues. We are working towards a formal merger date of September 2027.
The decision follows a detailed period of due diligence, consultation with our communities and consideration by the Boards of both Trusts.
At the heart of the merger is an opportunity to bring together two highly complementary areas of expertise. Ebor has extensive experience in mainstream primary education, while Nexus brings significant expertise in specialist education and SEND. By working as one organisation, we believe we can share that knowledge much more widely, strengthen inclusive practice and create more opportunities for both learners and staff.
The merger will also create greater capacity and long-term resilience, allowing us to use our collective resources and expertise more effectively.
Importantly, individual schools will retain their identity. School names, uniforms and designations will remain unchanged, existing leadership teams will continue to lead their schools and local governance arrangements will stay in place.
The DfE’s approval marks an important milestone, but there is still work to do before the merger is completed, and we will continue to keep staff, families and partners updated as those arrangements progress.
Our ambition throughout has been straightforward: to protect what is already strong in both Trusts while creating something together that can do even more for children, families and communities.
